GARDEN CLUB

The English Turn Garden Club will hold its last meeting of the season on May 1, 2012, at Ralph’s on the Park at 11am. At that time we will be installing the new officers for the upcoming 2012/2013 season. Luncheon will follow. The cost of the luncheon is $35. Please make sure to get your checks in to Janice Faust.

I would like to take this time to thank all who have helped make this year wonderful. Serving as President opened my world to new friends and places. I encourage anyone who has not gotten involved to do so. Please consider serving as an officer in the club in upcoming years. It’s very little work for such great rewards.

In August we are planning a get-together. Please watch for the invite and if you are not a member of the Garden Club but are curious, please come. We will try to put out the specifics in the newsletter in July and August.

If interested in joining the Garden Club, please contact Peggy Majoria at 504.394.6770. Annual Membership is $35.

HORTICULTURAL TIP OF THE MONTH

In the shade plant Impatiens, Coleus, Sweet Alyssum, Lobelia and annual Dianthus. In the full sun plant Verbena Periwinkle, Ageratum, Marigold and Zinnias. Keep an eye on garden pests and diseases – red spiders, thrips, aphids, lacebugs, lacewings, mealy bugs, caterpillars, slugs, snails, mildew, fungus, and crown rot. Water deeply during weeks that it does not rain. This is the last month to prune Azaleas and Camellias as new buds are formed in June.
